Sticking to the tradition of driving cross-country every five years for Mustang milestone anniversaries, Mustangs Across America is “pulling out the stops” for its 50th Anniversary Drive in April 2014.
Calling it the “Drive of a Lifetime,” event coordinator Sam Haymart says the 50th MAA will take an all-new route, covering over 2,400 miles and seven days as the cruise travels from Los Angeles to Charlotte for the Mustang Club of America’s Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration on April 16-20, 2014.
Departing LA on April 10, the road trip adventure will tour the American Southwest, Texas oil country, and the deep South on its way to Charlotte Motor Speedway. Open to all Mustangs, the 50th MAA is planned for segments that average 350 miles per day with stops in Phoenix, Arizona; Las Cruces, New Mexico; Midland, Texas; Dallas, TX; Jackson, Mississippi; and Atlanta, Georgia, with arrival in Charlotte scheduled for April 16. Haymart has scheduled a leisurely pace to allow visits to attractions like the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in Texas, the Sixth Floor JFK Museum in Dallas, and the Vicksburg Military Park in Mississippi.
“For the Mustangs Across America 50th Anniversary Drive, we are excited to bring something new,” says Haymart. “The optional day tours allow people to take in quality sight-seeing along the way. It adds to the romance of Mustangs parading across our beautiful country together.”
While there are planned stops, tours, and events, participants can also travel at their own pace with the freedom to make their own stops and side trips. With nearly 150 Mustangs already pre-registered, Haymart says he expects at least 500 Mustangs to make the journey.
