On October 16, the original Gone in 60 Seconds, starring a ’73 Mustang fastback as “Eleanor,” will be available as a special Blu-Ray and DVD Combo Pack.
H. B. Halicki’s movie from 1974 inspired the 2000 remake that starred Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie, and a one-of-a-kind custom Mustang fastback as the new Eleanor. With what USA Today has hailed as, “One of the greatest car chase scenes in history,” the movie’s 40-minute chase and crash scene became a template for future car chase movies.
Written, produced, and directed by Halicki, the plot involves a scheme to steal 48 muscle and exotic cars. A ’73 Mustang fastback as Eleanor becomes the movie’s superhero as the car slams through five cities and wrecks 93 cars while eluding the police.
The Gone in 60 Seconds Blu-Ray and DVD Combo Pack comes with a collection of bonus features, including a piece about the life and times of H. B. Halicki, an interview with widow Denice Halicki, commentary from the editor and director of photography, special interview with Lee Iacocca, and three featurettes about the crash scenes.
Restored in Widescreen and digitally remastered in 5.1 Dolby with DTS Surround Sound, the Gone in 60 Seconds Combo Pack will retail for $20.99. Look for it on October 16 at Wal-Mart, Amazon, Best Buy, and other national chains.
