Coming out of the fifth and sixth rounds of the SCCA Pro Racing Pirelli World Challenge races, Paul Brown is leading the GTS Driver’s Championship and has helped to increase Ford’s lead in the Manufacturer’s Championship.
On May 22 at Mosport, Brown drove his Boss 302S to his second win of the season.
When asked about how the Lucas Oil/K&N Mustang Boss 302S was performing, Brown said, “Ford Racing has done such a good job with this new Boss Mustang program that it makes my job easy. The more I drive it, the more comfortable and the faster we keep getting.”
Adding further detail tothe Mosport weekend, Brown said, “I would have to say that it was our ERP, custom-valved, JRZ shock package that really helped us win. We spent the first two days of testing just working on the Turn 5 exit that leads onto the long back straight. By the time the race came, we had it down perfect. I could go to throttle much sooner than our competitors and get a killer launch. I could take full advantage of the Pirelli slicks with no wheel spin and was gaining an instant car length or two. The long back straight is so important at Mosport. I knew that Turn 5 was key since we didn’t have the ulitmate top speed on the straight and we’re still down on mph with the required intake restrictor in place.”
At the halfway point of the season, Brown has led the most laps in GTS, put in the fastest race lap five out of six times, qualified on the front row six out of six times, has three poles, two wins, one second place, and is leading the championship. The team is getting a bit of a break, but also plans on some testing, media events, and then getting back into it at Mid-Ohio.
Brown added, “With every issue or glitch, we get stronger and are all working toward the same goal. I think we have our competition worried and they know we are for real.”
