The NMCA Flowmaster Muscle Car Nationals has announced that Ford Racing is sponsoring a special Cobra Jet Showdown in conjunction with the JE Pistons NMCA Muscle Car Nationals at Milan Dragway in Milan, Michigan, on August 26-28,2011.
All ’08-’12 Cobra Jet owners are invited to participate in one of two classes, with the winner of each competing for the overall championship. One class is for Cobra Jets utilizing the 2.3-liter supercharger or 428 cubic-inch naturally-aspirated engines, while the other class is for the 4.0-liter supercharger (essentially running modified NHRA Stock and Super Stock rules, respectively).
Both classes will be run heads up until a winner in each class is determined. Once each individual winner is crowned, there will be a handicapped start (based on the quickest time for each individual competitor) Showdown with no breakout to determine the King of the Cobra Jets.
“The Cobra Jets have had amazing success on the track, winning events across the country, but not everyone has had the chance to compete in their car,” said George Goddu, Manager, Ford Racing Performance Group. “The Cobra Jet Showdown gives all CJ owners an opportunity to experience what the Cobra Jet can do. This is a great opportunity to learn about the car, get some seat time, and share experiences with racers who campaign the Cobra Jet regularly, along with the Ford team that engineered and produced it.”
The class will qualify on Friday and run on a Sportsman ladder with a .500 full tree for Saturday eliminations. Each class will feature a $2,400 purse and the overall winner of the Showdown will receive an additional $2,000. Car and driver entry into the FRPP Cobra Jet Showdown is available free, compliments of NMCA and Ford Racing.
Top Fuel Funny Car racer Bob Tasca III will be present as the Grand Marshall of the Cobra Jet Showdown, with the Tasca family’s Cobra Jets also competing in the Shootout.
