Your New Tow Vehicle Has Arrived

Big News for those of you who tow your classic Mustangs to shows.  Big power from Ford's 2011 F-150 with an exciting line-up of new engines.

Talk about a renaissance movement in truck power?  In 2004, Ford brought us the all-new redesigned and upsized F-150 pick-ups with optional 3-Valve SOHC Modular V-8 power.  In 2009, a fresh face and chiseled-chin macho demeanor in one of the best looking F-Series trucks Ford has ever introduced.

For 2011, the bold look F-150 gets a big lift in power and technology with a quartet of high-tech, big-horse powerplants.  Gone are dated engines that have been with us for a long time and made this truck line stagnant.

The 4.2L Essex pushrod V-6 has been replaced with two exciting high-tech V-6 engines - the 3.7L DOHC standard V-6 and an optional twin-turbo Ecoboost 3.5L DOHC V-6.  Imagine your neighbor's facial expression when they spot a twin-turbo pick-up truck in your driveway.  That's right - twin-turbo Ecoboost power in a humble pick-up truck your neighbors will always want to borrow.

The 3.5L Ecoboost V-6 is a close cousin to what we find in the Taurus SHO.  Check this out - 365 horsepower and 420 ft/lbs of torque.  It gets the poop from twin turbochargers the size of a softball.  Variable valve timing along with electronic control are great assets designed to crank in power without self destruction.  You get the power without worrying about detonation.

Perhaps you like the throaty roar of a V-8 instead of the buzz of a V-6.  Ford's got two of them for the 2011 F-150.  Mustang's super hot 5.0L Coyote V-8 is now available in the F-150 with 360 horsepower and 380 ft/lbs of torque.  Less horsepower than Mustang - however, more torque, which is what you want in a pick-up truck.  This is an all-aluminum V-8 with variable valve timing for crisp performance.  It is the first time a double overhead cam V-8 has ever been available in the F-150.

Need abundant pulling power?  Step up to the 6.2L SOHC V-8 with 411 horsepower and 434 ft/lbs of twist for brute pulling power.  Power comes from a composite induction system, twin-plug cylinder heads, a high-strength skirted block with cross-bolted main caps, roller rocker overhead cam technology, and drive by wire control.

Getting power to the rear wheels comes from an all-new 6R80 six-speed automatic overdrive transmission, which comes behind all of these new F-150 engine packages.  What makes the 6R80 different is its versatility.  Externally, it looks the same.  Internally, it is packaged for the engine it is married to.  What's more, the 6R80 is a "life of the unit" innovation from Ford.  It never requires service and is good for 150,000 miles of hard use according to Ford.

Visit your Ford dealer and check out the 2011 F-150 for your next tow vehicle.  It's a nice, affordable alternative to the F-250/350 Super Duty trucks - something you can drive every day and save a bunch of fuel at the same time.
