Body Buck Tags On Pre-Production Mustangs? NOT!

In the April issue of Mustang Monthly in "Some Hand Assembly Required", you will find a significant error that addresses the use of body buck tags.

In the April 2010 issue of Mustang Monthly on page 34, we erroneously stated 5F08F100140 has a body buck tag, which was a copy editing error.  Body buck tags weren't used on Mustangs until late in the 1965 model year and beyond - and only at Dearborn and Metuchen plants.  Body buck tags were used briefly in 1969-70 at San Jose.  Mustang Monthly regrets this error.

2. No - quite the opposite. Your '67 Metuchen car should have a body buck tag on the driver's side just ahead of the hood hinge on the inner fender. Body buck tags weren't used until the end of the 1965 model year at Dearborn and Metuchen and were used at those two plants forever more. Metuchen built its last Mustang in December of 1970 (1971 model year) to make way for Pinto production. Dearborn used body buck tags on 1974-04 Mustangs. The body buck tag was a body shop only information tool - color both inside and out - and any body specific instructions. Seems each plant and each shift had its own way of doing body buck tag information.
