Look at it this way - a Gear Vendors overdrive unit reduces engine rpm significantly at cruising speeds.  At 70mph with a 3.00:1 axle ratio, your Mustang's engine speed should be somewhere around 2,800 rpm.  With a Gear Vendors overdrive unit and a 3.50:1 axle ratio, engine rpm should be around 2,000 rpm at 70mph.  This means a dramatic drop in fuel consumption and engine wear and tear.
