Classic Design Concepts calls it the ultimate street/track machine, a Mustang that you can drive to work every day, then head straight to the track on the weekends without even changing the tires.
Based on the 2010 Mustang GT, CDC’s “Weekend Warrior” concept shows how you can build a dual-purpose Mustang with parts from CDC and the companies that contributed to the project, which debuted at the 2009 SEMA Show.
Proving that the Weekend Warrior is more than a show car, CDC put the concept to the test at Optima Batteries’ Ultimate Street Car Invitational, where Travis Huisman, son of CDC owner George Huisman, piloted the Weekend Warrior to a Eighth place finish in a field of nearly 50 high-end musclecars.
In addition to its naturally-aspired modified 4.6L engine, adjustable suspension, and CDC body components, the Weekend Warrior is filled with neat tricks from the fertile mind of George Huisman. Most notably, the rear seat has been removed and the area filled with all the stuff you’d need at the track, including a spare tire, fire extinguisher, and storage space for a floor jack, cordless impact driver, helmet, racing shoes, and gloves.
Perhaps more of a gimmick than an actual on-track benefit (unless you’re on the high-banks at Daytona), the rear spoiler flips up to serve as an air-brake during braking. Thankfully, for the street, the function can be switched off to prevent freaking out the drivers behind you.
