In the presence of greatness...  An opportunity to spend time with the Father of the Mustang.

I've had incredible good fortune in 25 years as a special interest automotive journalist and historian.  The great experiences and the thrill of doing what I love for a living cannot be measured.  For many years, I wanted an interview with Lee Iacocca.  And for many years when he was at Chrysler, interviews about the Mustang were not possible for obvious reasons.

In retirement, Mr. Iacocca has been able to let his hair down and reflect proudly over a half-century career as an automobile executive and humanitarian.  I've been in the company of greatness not once, but several times thanks to Mr. Iacocca's generosity and kindness.

On August 25th in the blazing Southern California summer sun, Mr. Iacocca again shared his valuable time with me posing for a Mustang Monthly cover with the 45th Silver Anniversary Edition Iacocca Mustang fastback.  Because we had significant lighting problems, we had to wait many hours for the sun to go around.  Mr. Iacocca offered us lunch and his good company.  When it was finally time to shoot our cover, lighting and composition wound up being a disappointment.  We weren't able to get what we wanted.

As unthinkable as it may seem, we asked Mr. Iacocca for a reshoot date because we wanted to get it right.  He obliged.  Luck and weather permitting, we will have our reshoot with Mr. Iacocca in mid-September.

Considering Lee Iacocca will be 85 in October and always has someone wanting a portion of his time, we're grateful and appreciative for every moment he has given us in the past five years.  Look for Lee Iacocca and his special limited edition ride in Mustang Monthly soon.
