During the Mustang 45th Anniversary Celebration over the April 16-19 weekend, Steve Saleen unveiled sketches of his 2010 SMS 460 Mustang, due by mid-summer.

Instantly recognizable as the work of Steve Saleen, the SMS 460 Mustangs will feature a host of visual and technical highlights to set them apart from the herd. “I previewed many of the features with my 25th anniversary car from last year,” said Saleen, who now reigns as CEO and president of SMS Supercars.

The front fascia treatment, Red Butterfly Air Induction Hood, front and side splitters, rear fascia, and diffuser with high downforce rear wing show how Steve is looking at Mustangs today. “You have to go with the times,” he says. "Ford has done a very good job with the 2010 Mustang. I wanted to interpret it using my signature to create the latest Steve Saleen version.”

The SMS 460 will be powered by a 4.6L V8 engine with a minimum of 470hp and 427 lb. ft. of torque, while an even more powerful SMS 460X version, with all-new internals and headwork, will deliver 655hp and 600 ft. lb. of torque from an enlarged 5.0L configuration. Both of the models will use the new SMS 296 supercharger.

Transmission options are a 5-speed automatic or manual for the 460. A 6-speed manual will be standard for the top-of-the-line 460X. Both cars will feature Saleen’s signature Watts linkage suspension with new geometry. New SMS brakes front and rear deliver impressive stopping power.

The interior with new Alcantara and leather SMS seats feature patented Signature Series chevron stripes. The dash and interior panels are covered in hand-stitched leather.
