We're looking for original 1965-78 Mustang owners. Are you one of them?
We recently received an email from our friend of 30 years, Fred Glazier of Glazier's Mustang Barn in Souderton, Pennsylvania. For the Mustang's 45th Anniversary Celebration in Birmingham, Alabama next month, they're amassing a group of original Mustang owners from 1964-65 - people who've been in love with their Mustangs for a lifetime and never considered trading them in.
Right now, it appears they have at least eight original owners lined up to be at Birmingham for a special display. And with any luck, there will be more.
Fred Glazier went to the 1964 New York World's Fair and rode Walt Disney's Magic Skyway, which had 12 Mustang convertibles mixed in with other Ford and Mercury convertibles of the era. Fred lost his mind and just had to have a new Mustang. He went out and bought a Rangoon Red hardtop, which appeared in Mustang Monthly some time ago. Fred and his lovely wife, Sue, were married around that time - which makes the car even more symbolic of their lifelong union. What's more, Fred's birthday is April 16th - how perfectly fitting for a guy who loves and restores Mustangs. This year, Fred celebrates 65 years on April 16th. So if you run into Fred at Birmingham, don't forget to wish him a happy birthday and admire his beautifully restored hardtop. In 45 years, he's never forgotten its importance.
Fred's email got us to thinking about doing something on original owners in Mustang Monthly. So we're extending an invitation to you and to others if you are an original owner. We want to hear from you. We want your pictures if you have any. We want to tell your story. Write to us at Jim.Smart@sorc.com or thesmart67@msn.com and tell us all about it. If your computer goes up in smoke, do it snail mail at Original Owner, c/o Mustang Monthly Magazine, 9036 Brittany Way, Tampa, Fl 33619.
