NOS & REPRO?

New-Old-Stock or Reproduction Parts - Which should you choose and why?

Electrical system parts are something where you do not cut corners. NOS electrical parts are expensive, but necessary when you cannot get reproduction.
Items like parking lamps and other electrical fixtures make it a toss up. Concours restorations can get away with more affordable reprodyction electrical system components.
This is an NOS fuel filler neck for 1970 Mustang. It is nearly impossible to tell it from a reproduction if you remove the stickers.

When you're conducting a restoration or building a restomod/modified, what should you choose - new-old-stock or reproduction parts?  Choice depends on the nature of your project and the quality/fit of reproduction parts.

If you're doing a concours restoration where originality is very important, new-old-stock parts, where available, are the most logical choice.  If you're doing a concours, street-driven restoration, it makes more economic sense to go reproduction parts.  Again - when reproduction part quality and/or fit are poor, new-old-stock or good used (restorable) makes the most sense.

Reproduction parts make the most sense on a restomod where originality doesn't matter.  And again - when quality and fit are poor - go with new-old-stock or good used.
