When you're doing regular preventative maintenance, don't forget the steering coupler.
This is something that can bite you badly if you're not on top of things. The humble steering shaft "rag joint" is exposed to extreme heat, ozone, and dryness. Although these guys last a long time, you never know when they will deterior and fail, leaving you with marginal, if no steering.
Rag joints first appeared on classic Mustangs in 1967 with tilt-away steering and toward the end of the model year. From then on, all Mustang steering columns had rag joints. Don't go looking for one of these on your '65.
When you do oil change and chassis lubrication, don't forget to inspect the steering coupler in the interest of safety.
