Twenty-five years after offering his first Saleen Mustang in 1984, Steve Saleen is celebrating the milestone with an ‘08 SMS 25th Anniversary Mustang Concept.
The new car follows the anniversary tradition for Saleen. While building Saleen Mustangs at Saleen Autosport, Steve celebrated each five-year mark with a special anniversary car, starting with the SSC in 1989 and followed by the SA-10, SA-15, and SA-20 models.
"In celebration of my 25 years in the niche manufacturing business, I wanted to create a car that appropriately marks this special anniversary," Steve said. "Although this car is not going to be for sale, it demonstrates the technological advances at SMS. My Anniversary cars were always the most powerful of the breed and the Concept continues that tradition with 720 horsepower at the crank."
For 25 years, Steve has been a leading pioneer in lifestyle performance automobiles, with his companies building an array of high-performance, sports, race, and collector cars that are coveted by both enthusiasts and celebrities, including Tim Allen and Tom Cruise. His companies have created everything from the S302 Extreme Mustangs to the Saleen S7 and S7R, the most victorious supercar-based racing vehicle ever.
"With the SSC, SA-10, SA-15 and SA-20, I introduced new technology to the automotive market," Steve said. "In keeping with that tradition, this concept car incorporates many important advances developed by SMS, like our patented SMS Red Butterfly Induction System and Light Blade LED Taillight System. When those butterflies crack open under throttle, people stop and stare."
The SMS 25th Anniversary Concept will be touring car shows this summer. For more information about the car and SMS, visit www.smslimitedusa.com.
