Saleen Automotive has reached into the past once again to recreate a modern rendition of a legendary Mustang race car.
Last year, the Saleen Parnelli Jones Edition Mustang captured the spotlight for Mustang enthusiasts with its modern take on PJ’s Trans-Am champion ’70 Boss 302. This year, Saleen steps back a year to recreate the ’69 Trans-Am Mustang driven by Dan Gurney.
"I am pleased they could make a car that is so beautiful but still so true to my old race car," said Dan Gurney at the car’s unveiling at the New York Auto Show. "At the end of the day, all I really want is a car that is faster than Parnelli’s."
And he’s got it with the Gurney Signature Edition Mustang, which is powered by a supercharged 4.6-liter engine that makes 465 horsepower. The naturally-aspired Parnelli edition made "only" 400 horsepower.
With production limited to 300 cars, the Gurney Edition Saleen is offered in Vista Blue, Torch Red, and Performance White, all with the ’69 Boss-style C-stripes. Custom two-tone seats feature either blue or red Alcantara inserts with stripes on the backs. Performance enhancements include a 3.73:1 Max Grip rearend, short-throw shifter, and a special Racecraft suspension with a Generation II Watts-link rear with Pirelli Corsa tires, a combination that has never been offered on any other Saleen Mustang.
