The Great American Pony Drive is planning its 2008 trip within the state of Florida, with stops based on the book Weird Florida by Charlie Carlson.
Starting in Marianna, Florida, on May 2 and ending in Savannah, Georgia, on May 18, the trip will explore some of the weird and interesting places and happenings from Florida's history. At many of the stops, the group will also be coordinating events with local Mustang clubs and Ford dealers. Stops are also planned in Ocala for a visit to the National Parts Depot headquarters and museum, and at Old Town in Kissimmee on Saturday night, May 10th, for the weekly cruise-in event.
Other points of interest include the Henry Ford and Thomas Edison homes in Ft. Myers, the House of Refuge in Stuart, Daytona Speedway, St Augustine, Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Ybor City in Tampa, Florida Caverns in Marianna, Panama City, Apalachicola Bay, Sebring Raceway, Kennedy Space Center, and lots of Florida back roads.
"Since this is the off-season in Florida, we're anticipating fairly low motel rates," says Pony Drive organizer David Turnbull. "It’s also before the rainy season, so the weather should be quite nice."
As with all Great American Pony Drives, everyone is invited to come along for whatever time their schedule will allow. For further updates and schedule information, check www.ponydrive.us.
